i am not delusional: SBSM → not-delusional.tumblr.com

guixien:

guixien:

A friend of mine translated an MBLAQ fanaccount from Nate Pann. We have had many discussions on why some international fans supported SM, and she seemed pretty adamant on proving why Korean fans disliked the company. For your reference, I am a Super Junior stan and she is a SHINee stan. However, this is a fanaccount made by an A+. Therefore there will be arguments used against the SM groups, but please know that she is not trying to displace the blame on the groups, but the company itself (and SBS, for that matter). The fanaccount was pulled from (here) and translation credits goes to Elizabeth.

So a lot of international fans are wondering why many of the Korean fans hate SM. SBS Gayo Daejun for 2011 can most definitely be an example. For short, I’ll just call it SBSGD. But the fault is not just on SM but SBSGD as well. During SBSGD, SM was favored. First of all, all the four groups of SM had a performance that totaled up to 40 minutes. On the other hand, new groups like Boyfriend, B1A4, and Apink had only a few minutes to perform their own songs (not counting joint performances).

If one is to disregard joint performances, almost every single artist/group out there perform a few minutes of their songs. Indeed, some SM artists significantly longer than others, hence the rookies did suffer.

The “hallyu” orchestra was made up of only SM artists when clearly members from many other groups were able to play instruments as well. There was also an area where the idols could watch their fellow artists’ performances. However, SM artists got most of the seats and tables. On the other hand, B1A4 and Davichi ended up in the back standing. Dongwoo from Infinite was forced to stand near the lights so he ended up getting a burn, but the staff members did nothing about it.

When one is to talk about Hallyu, the default company which jumps into mind will be SM. SM is regarded as the leader of Hallyu, the company which introduces and brings their groups (SM Town) into other countries for performances. It’s no doubt that SM Town Paris/New York received extensive coverage from the Korean media. Bawling fangirls clips were replayed to the point of embarrassment. SBSGD was Hallyu-themed, and it’s somehow implied that SM artists will be on the forefront while the rest take the back seat (literally, apparently).

I honestly don’t see how people managed to blame SM for SBS’s obvious incompetence. SBS was the one who didn’t organize the event perfectly, their staff didn’t prepare enough chairs or dressing rooms, and this is their problem. Not SM. If anything, the only problem that SM is guilty of when it comes to seating arrangements will be their large groups. Their complete roster of TVXQ+SJ+SNSD+f(x)+EXO+SHINee+TRAX+CSJH who were present that day amounts up to a grand total of 30 people.

Pictures proved that there were a lack of chairs and the singers had to get the chairs on their own. One of the pictures show Yoseob getting a chair for the B1A4 members (here). The chair that Kikwang was sitting on? It was a chair that a staff member grabbed from the SBS cafeteria. Also, Hoya’s mic wasn’t working but the staff members simply told him to “get on stage and perform”. This created false accusations of him lip-syncing. Taecyon from 2PM also had a mic that did not work so he had to go on stage and ended up screaming. The fans said that his voice was cracking like crazy towards the end of their last performance.

Still SBS’s problem, not SM.

Also, IU didn’t even get to perform Good Day, considering that it was a hit and had the highest Music Bank score. Meanwhile SNSD performed longer than IU when their song wasn’t even as famous and was ranked below Secret’s Shy boy. The follow might not be true and is a rumor but: IU was going to be the MC for SBSGD, however was replaced by Yoona when SM “pulled strings”.

Personally yes, I’m genuinely surprised and puzzled why didn’t IU perform Good Day. When one say that SNSD performed ‘longer’, it’s like complaining why SNSD performed a remix version of ‘The Boys’. Everyone else performed remix, and this lengthened their songs. Why not complain about how T-ara performed remix for Cry Cry when they didn’t win a single MuBank trophy this entire year? Why not complain about how every single act out there performing a remix as well? Why single out SNSD, or as implied, all other SM acts? And why talk about MuBank, when it’s SBS being fussed about here?

And that IU/Yoona rumour? Including a rumour in something the writer wants to pass of as fact is seriously the dumbest move, ever. How are people supposed to take this ‘fact’ seriously now?

Furthermore, if one is to ask why SNSD got to perform their not ‘even as famous’ song longer, the only explanation I can give: It’s SNSD.

Why couldn’t people hear a lot of cheering in the audience? No seats were provided for Teen Top and Infinite’s fans. Only six MBLAQ fans got to enter while many others had lined up since early in the morning to get in. SBS said that 30 seats were saved for A+ but only six had entered. Their cheers couldn’t even be heard and other fans had to help them. Fans said that after their performance, MBLAQ struggled to search for their fans.

And the fans that waited to get inside? They were treated like prisoners. Literally. They were right outside a door that led into a huge room. The staff members didn’t even pay attention to them and the security guards simply ignored them. They couldn’t even go out to eat or go to the bathroom as the staff members ate in front of them. The fans couldn’t even use the vending machines because it was for “staff use only”. The fans that were able to get out were not allowed back in.

The singers were also treated badly. There weren’t enough waiting rooms. Infinite had to do their makeup in the bathroom while Davichi had to change inside the stalls. Most were kicked out into the hallway where they had to get ready, check their mics, and warm up their voices. They didn’t even get legit meals so MBLAQ’s manager had to go out to get them something and 2PM merely got 2 corndogs as their meals.

Still SBS.

The following may also not be true and is also a rumor: but it is said that EXO’s waiting room was actually MBLAQ’s. It’s upsetting that EXO got to have a waiting room when they didn’t even debut yet, and MBLAQ had already passed their one year anniversary. The hallway was super cold and it was detrimental to Teen Top’s comeback, because they were subject to catching colds due to them standing in the hallway for so long. Also it was offensive to U-Kiss that they started the opening because it is usually reserved for new idol groups, however U-Kiss debuted a long way back. It isn’t right to do that to a group that came all the way to Korea from Japan and with such a tight schedule.

RUMOUR. OMG. Explaining and justifying a rumour, and after that attempting to pass it off as fact. EXO with their own dressing room? This is blasphemy if true, but the problem is that I find it so damn hard to believe it even for a second. And once again, SBSGD producer decide the arrangement of the performers.

Just in case any SM group fans get mad, I’m saying that it was SM and SBS’ fault, not the groups themselves. In fact, some SM groups were cictims too, especially Super Junior. No one told the fans when the pre-recording was so less than twenty ELF were able to attend. How upsetting could that have been to Super Junior? The fans screams and support is what keeps a singer going. There was so little cheering going on that the staff members had to ask fans from other groups to cheer louder (fans were helping to cheer in the first place). Really, if you saw Super Junior’s tweets you could tell how mad they were. Also SHINee had to standby for 24 hours to come out on the screen for only a few minutes. The fans were mad because SHINee were running on a hard schedule and came to Korea only to be in the background for EXO. Jonghyun literally did most of the singing while the members of EXO were screened, not him.

How nice to say that it’s not the groups’ problem, but rather the company, thank you for clarifying. And how amazing that it’s once again (part of) SM’s problem that SBS camera chose to shoot EXO members rather than Jonghyun who was singing. I didn’t know SM can control that too.

There was no apology from SBSGD, and the Korean fans are now demanding an apology. It is clearly seen that SM artists were “favored” (although things did go terribly for Super Junior and SHINee) and many other fans from “minor” companies were looked down upon. Really, SM doesn’t treat their groups well and EXO coming up on such a big stage when they didn’t even debut is a bit upsetting. These are one of the many reasons why Korean fans dislike SM.

Again, none of this was a hate message to EXO or any of the SM groups. The reason why EXO was brought up was because they have not yet debuted, but they still had full stages. Meanwhile many other sunbae groups were suffering in the hallways and got barely any screen time. I do believe that SBS Gayo Daejun was a bit of an SM concert, and that other artists deserved more screen time. But most importantly, I believe that not a single artist should have suffered that night. That in itself was very wrong.

No, EXO didn’t have full stages. They were split up and performed among their seniors, it was like a ‘introduction’ stage for them. What about Pledis Boys? They had yet debuted as well (it was supposed to be some sort of debut stage for them) and they performed too. Why not complain about them?

I agree that SM artists were significantly favored by SBS. Not the staff obviously, since we have Super Junior members as well as a couple other SM artists tweeting about SBS fiasco. However, one explanation that I can offer up will be one word (or two in Hangul): Hallyu. SM is a pusher of Hallyu. SM artists are the leaders of Hallyu. If you have a Hallyu-themed Gayo Daejun, I think it’s rather obvious for SM to take the front seat of this event.

note: in case of misunderstanding, this counter-argument is for the fan who posted the original fanaccount, not anyone else.

Reblogging for reasons. (reminder: email to Liz)

Who would you choose? → kyupie.tumblr.com

kyupie:

Heechul - The confident type. He’ll laugh with you until you both have tears in your eyes. He’ll buy you a pet cat but play with it more than you. He’ll kiss from your shoulder to your collarbone and tell you that you’re beautiful. He’s Heechul and he’ll fiercely defend you from people who put you down. Sometimes he feels insecure without you.

Leeteuk - The leader type. Dependable. He’ll pick you up when he says he will, never late. He plans in advance and takes you to expensive restaurants, nothing less than the best for you. He’ll wash the dishes and then snuggle on the sofa with you. He’s Leeteuk and he has a strange laugh, his hair probably silkier than yours.

Hankyung - The martial arts type. He’ll listen to quiet music and hum along for you. His driving may scare you but his eyes will crinkle behind his sunglasses as he smiles. He talks quietly and sometimes he’ll fumble with his words but he’ll always apologise to you. He’s Hangeng and he’ll serve Beijing fried rice at 3AM with an adorable laugh.

Yesung - The weird type. In his eyes will often be a dazed, dreamy look and he’ll chuckle when he’s not supposed to. He talks too much and will straighten your hair for you. He’ll invent ridiculous shapes in the clouds as you lie together on grass, his small hand and yours entwined. He’s Yesung and he’ll sing your favourite song whilst dancing stupidly, just to cheer you up when you’re feeling depressed.

Kangin - The strong, protective type. He’ll take off his jacket and slip it around your shoulders at the slightest hint of wind. At night he’ll wrap his arm around you even if when he wakes he can no longer feel it. He’s Kangin, a man of responsibility, with one of the most beautiful eye-smiles you have ever seen.

Shindong - The ’make you laugh’ type. He’ll tickle you until you scream, jumping around the house. He’ll share his ice cream, promising you the bigger bowl. He always has a new story to tell you. He’s Shindong and he’ll give you his favourite jumper, just so you can be warm for the winter nights.

Sungmin - The cute type. He’ll flutter his eyelashes at you, looking innocent until he gets his own way. He’s quiet and can sometimes be manly. He prefers to cook for you and his hand will always steady you if you trip. He’s Sungmin and he plays the guitar in the pouring rain, especially for you.

Eunhyuk - The dancer, joker type. His graceful body is probably lighter than yours but he still gives soft squishy hugs. He may joke around a lot of the time, showing the kindest, gummiest smile in the world, yet he also has big, honest eyes that water when he‘s upset. He’s Hyukjae and he’ll treat you as if you’re his entire world.

Donghae - The prince type. His smile lights up your day like no other. He’ll scoop you up in huge hugs and hold you close. He’s vulnerable, hates to be alone and is furiously faithful. He’s Donghae and he’ll never leave you, instead taking you on picnics and feeding you strawberries, rubbing his thumb in circles on the back of your hand.

Siwon - The sports type. He’ll rub suntan lotion into your skin for you and wrap his strong hands around your waist when you swim together. He’s religious and appreciates family more than most. He loves to travel to new places and experience new things. He’s Siwon and he’ll make you black coffee on a Sunday morning.

Ryeowook. The gentle type. He’ll wait until you come home every evening with dinner made for you with a soft smile. When you’re ill he’ll sit beside you, holding your hand. He’s always soothing and considers others more than himself. He’s Ryeowook and he’ll doodle lyrics on his hand, writing a new song, just for you.

Kibum - The intellectual, smart type. He’ll wake you in the morning with a new book, a huge smile playing about his face. He’ll slip his glasses on his eyes as he searches for a new art film to take you to, buying you stunning jewellery and silk dresses. He’s Kibum and sometimes he daydreams in another world.

Kyuhyun - The evil type. Sure you’ll see more smirks than smiles to begin with, but once he knows that you’re the one, he’s hopelessly romantic. He’ll croon your favourite lullaby to you as you sleep, his hand smoothing your hair. He’s Kyuhyun and he’ll take you on dates to kimbap restaurants, grinning at you over bowls of food.

I don’t see what all the hype about SM ent artists are about, they release an album with one hit song and around 7 slow ballad songs that fill up the rest of the album. Then, on top of all that, they release repackage after repackage, and being a fan, most people are forced to…
